About

I am Michel Brouwers. A thirty-two-year-old living in Maastricht, the Netherlands. I write commentary on current events and about thoughts that come to my mind when observing the world. I am also an amateur photographer and a 5K runner.

As a writer I am interested in human behaviour, the organisation of society and in how morals are evolving. My comment puts into perspective and assesses current events. The focus is on providing insight, though some articles explicitly express a personal opi- nion. Under thoughts I provide a detached view on the world and analysis of our activities.

Topics / interests

  • government policy in general, international co-operation, geopolitics, financial and macroeconomic policy, organisation and management
  • human behaviour, humans in a social context, outlook on life and mortality, customs / habits, morals
  • systematising an operational collective, embedding individuals using morals, the present-day as a part of an ongoing development of a people

The photographer in me likes to capture humans off guard. Playing with light and colours, a good composition taken at the right time, it is rewarding when it all comes together. I am using a Canon 50D with a Canon EF-S 17-55, which is somewhat short for making candid portraits in the street. I like my images 'contrasty' and the colours a little oversaturated.

I am running because I want to exceed, to go further than I have been before. Even though I am not 'the most talented' runner, I keep on fighting to beat myself and those that I race against. Running is as much about strengthening the muscles as it is about the mind. Pain is only temporary, a result forever.
