One year of photography

Now that I have changed cameras, after one year of using the Panasonic LS2, I decided to put the best pictures in one overview. This overview does not include the few pictures I took with my new camera, the Panasonic FZ8. They are grouped in chronological order, i.e. the oldest ones first.

[singlepic=38,84,63,left]Burning sun: one of the first experimental pictures. I like it because of the clouds that seem to be burning. It seems there is a second sun direct over the real one. Also, one can see some colouring in the middle at the top. It depicts the coldness of winter.

[singlepic=117,84,63,left]Snow: this picture was taken in February, when our warm winter surprisingly was interrupted by a breeze of cold. This picture was taking the next morning, when thaw set in. You can see drops of water hanging from the trees. At the same time the kids on their bikes appear to be in motion.

[singlepic=277,84,63,left]Air Slovakia: it had been set as desktop theme for a long time. It is was the first time intentionally going somewhere to take a photograph of a plane. I like it because airplane resembles a bird aiming for its prey. Next to this, the background is… just wonderful.

[singlepic=253,84,63,left]Fokker: this is the only picture from the Brussels spotting trip that I consider to be worthwhile to mention in my list. I had been taking close to 100 pictures that day. This was the last one of the day. I was about to enter the car, when I switched the camera on one more time. I had to hold it over my head and bend my limbs in impossible ways. This picture was perfect. A lucky shot.

[singlepic=79,84,63,left]Snails: using the macro mode of the camera I created this ‘artistic shot’. Actually, the camera did all the work. The light is not perfect (shadows), but the colours are vibrant. I think I like it most for the sharpness and blur. The snails were actually quite small and hidden from my view.

[singlepic=138,84,63,left]Boundary top: it is the mysticism of boundaries combined with hills. You can see the pole that marks the boundary under the traffic sign on the right. I should have paid more attention to the composition. Also, the white balance was not perfect (considering the strange colour of the sky). The shadows on the road are great: they give a summerlike feeling.

[singlepic=109,84,63,left]Sun through glasses: picture was taken through sunglasses. It was a sunny day in autumn with the leaves still hanging on the trees. You can see the reflection of the sun on either the sunglasses or the lens of the camera. The filtering by the sunglasses makes some detail around the sun visible.

[singlepic=110,84,63,left]Spider: this shot had taken quite some time to develop. The most difficult part was to take down the spider, as it was hanging over the kitchen table in the early morning. Once I got it under the glass I got breakfast first. Picture was taken using macro mode. It shows details one normally does not get to see (look at the legs). By the way, it had a cross on its back.

In the end I must have taken about 1200 pictures with this camera. Many of them were test shots or just… rubbish. Overall, the camera’s performance has been satisfying. I noticed, though, that for the photography I want to do (telephoto-making), I need to use another camera. Also, I like to have the manual controls (shutter time / aperture) that my new Panasonic FZ8 has on offer. For more pictures, I refer to the photo section.

My personal favourite is the spider :)

Quite useful animals, skillful at catching prey too :)
