Next week on Wednesday we will cast our ballots again. Our government has survived two break ups, though the third one was not to be glued again. Therefore the elections are half a year earlier than planned. Unfortunately, the main parties decided to propose more or less the same solutions to the problems facing this society. As you might now, Europe has encountered problems integrating the muslim minority, and has as well sluggish economic growth. The latter is less of a problem here, as the government has taken a pro liberal stance on economic issues. The integration issue has been put to the back ground, as political parties are afraid of debating this difficult issue with the public. Personaly I strongly favour liberty: civil and economic liberties. Unfortunately, there is no party that sufficiently shares my views. I am contemplating a few options: 1.) not voting, 2.) voting for the social liberals (D66), 3.) voting for the newly founded market liberals (1NL) and 4.) voting for the esablished liberals (VVD). The latter are supposed to be classical liberals, and striving to reduce the role of the government in private live as much as possible, regarding civil and economic liberties. Unfortunately their unity is questionable: one part seems to favour the social liberal ideas, the other the conservative market liberal thought. In other words, one part resembles D66 and the other 1NL. So maybe, the VVD would be a good compromise. Anyway, I don’t think that not voting would be an option. I strongly favour the economic liberalisation agenda the present government (Christian democrats and VVD) has started. Therefore, VVD would be a compromise, I might be able to live with. As always, these are hard times for those who like to be free…
